We can help!
We help
hundreds of people understand why cigarettes are so addicting. We also teach
them the tools necessary to quit smoking.
Most
smokers have thought at some point in their lives about learning how to quit
smoking. For some, it’s just a fleeting thought when they run out of
cigarettes. For others, it’s a more serious consideration because smoking is
causing problems in their lives. Whatever stage you ‘re at, we hope
this website will be useful to you. You can quit smoking if you make up
your mind to do it. This website is produced by the Diversified
Intervention Group, with help from the University of California.
Since 1992, the we have served over 150,000 people who wanted to know
more about quitting. In the following paragraphs, we’ll share some of the
things we’ve learned. We’ll also look at what motivates people to quit and what
helps them to quit for good.
Understanding the quitting
process
Understanding
the quitting process makes quitting easier. We’ve learned that, although people
quit smoking in their own way, there are two things that stand out:
§ motivation
and;
§ planning.
It’s
really that simple. If you wish to stop smoking, you can learn here. We’ll take
a closer look at both of these things later on. Please keep reading on.

Why is it hard to quit
smoking..?
Most
smokers feel two ways about quitting. They want to quit, and at the same time
they wish they could keep smoking but they know its damaging their health each
and every day they continue to smoke.
Simply
stated, quitting is hard. Its important to understand the reason why it is so
hard to quit so that you can have the best chances of success. Here is why:
Smokers
have mixed feelings about quitting.
They
know that smoking is bad for them. But smoking also gives them something they
like. Whatever a person gets out of cigarettes keeps them smoking.
Smoking is
a habit.
Smokers
are used to having cigarettes at the same times each day,for the same reasons.
Smoking becomes automatic. Quitting can disrupt the daily routine. Some people
go back to smoking to feel “normal” again. Smokers will find a normal feeling
once they smoke again.
Smoking
fills a need.
Many
smokers use cigarettes to help them get through the pressures of daily life.
They may come to believe that smoking is the only way to cope. Many smokers
view cigarettes as a long-term “friend”. They may have strong feelings of loss
when they try hard to quit smoking.
Smokers may
be dependent on nicotine
Their
bodies may crave nicotine after quitting. Withdrawal symptoms are normal. They
will go away on their own, usually in a week or two.
dizziness
trouble thinking hunger restlessness
depression
coughing tiredness trouble sleeping headaches
irritability
Some
people start smoking again to ge rid of withdrawal symptoms. Keep in mind that
thousands of people quit smoking each year, despite the mixed feelings, the
habit, and the need for nicotine.
How people quit
smoking..?
It is
rare for a smoker to wake up one day and put cigarettes down for good, once and
for all. Most often, smokers take smaller steps on their way to becoming
nonsmokers.
Quitting
happens over time.
Most
smokers try many times before quitting entirely. With every try, they will
learn more about how to quit for good. The more times a person tries to quit,
the closer he or she is to succeeding for life. That is a fact.
Motivation
and planning are important.
Smokers
can quit even without strong willpower. The real keys are motivation (finding a strong reason to quit) andplanning.
Slips and
relapses are normal.
People
often slip (smoke, but get back on track with quitting) or relapse ( start
smoking regularly again). Smoking again is not a sign of weakness, it just may
mean that the smoker needs to do more planning.
It takes a
while to think like a nonsmoker.
When
people first quit, they will still think like smokers. Every day, they have to
decide whether or not to smoke. Nonsmokers decide once and for all: no smoking,
no matter what. When people change their thinking, they have a 100% better
chance of quitting for life! It’s true!
Helping Tips
Nicotine
Patches, Nicotine Gum, Nicotine Nasal Spray, Nicotine Lozenges, Prescription
Pills (Chantix is very effective compared to traditional medicines like Zyban
or Wellbutrin), Professional help and 12 Step programs, Hypnosis, Acupuncture,
and Herbal Remedies.
The
most successful treatment for chronic smokers that we know of is a medicine
called Chantix. You must ask your doctor for a prescription. It does require a
valid medical prescription. It is expensive medication, but the drug
manufacturer does give grants to folks who really want to quit and can not
afford the medicine. We found this out because we searched Pfizers website and
found a small link at the very bottom of the home page for people who really
wanted the medicine.
How does the medicine
work..?
Chantix
is a non-nicotine pill which is what makes it so great. It finds the nicotine
receptors in your brain and attaches itself to them and blocks nicotine from
entering your brain! This medicine does produce strange dreams but that is a
small price to pay for a few months to be a nonsmoker once and for all! We
highly recommend this medicine but check with your doctor first before using
it.
Here is
the best thing about Chantix: the way it works (and most smokers like this) is
that you begin taking the medicine and continue to smoke for the first 5 whole
days! After about the sixth day, you wake up and the urge to smoke is gone! Its
true. This medicine is not a magic bullet but if you have the desire and the
motivation talked about earlier, it will work if you stick with it. It make
take a few tries but the more you try, the closer you will get to becoming a
nonsmoker once and for all. Good Luck!
